Description:
The Communications Technician participates in the planning, installation and maintenance of communications systems that support Joint Military Training. Candidate must possess the ability to function well in a rapidly changing environment with little or no direct supervision and perform multiple tasks in a timely and accurate manner.
The Communications Technician performs network and communication line monitoring using Sniffers, Firebirds, Protocol analyzers and multi-meters. The technician assist with the development of Logistic Support Plans, Standard Operating Procedures and other technical documents as required. The successful candidate will research and become familiar with new technologies when formal training is not available.
The Communications Technician configures, installs, operates and maintains network WAN/LAN equipment in fixed and temporary locations. Configures and installs computers and printers to support exercise communications. Configures and optimizes network routers, switches and hubs. The technician is responsible for diagnosing and resolving network problems. Installs, operates and maintains Video Teleconferencing Equipment (VTC) and associated A/V (audio visual) devices.

Security Clearance:
Applicants selected will be subject to a Government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information. Must be a U.S. citizen.

Required Skills:
The Communications Technician should have 2 years experience installing, and maintaining communications and cable systems. The Communications Technician must build connectors such as DB9, 25, and 37, HDB 44 and 50, RJ11 and RJ45; works with fiber cables. Must support encryption devices such as TACLANES, FASLANES, KGs, KIVs, STU-III and STE.

Preferred Skills:
A Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) certificate is desirable but not required. An understanding of UNIX and MS Windows is a plus.

Travel:
The Communications Technician is expected to travel to and operate independently at remote communications sites in and out of CONUS. Travel may involve up to 30 consecutive days at a time and 120 days a year. The engineer is expected to support shift work as required.

Education:
The communications technician must have an Associates Degree with a concentration in Information Systems or more than 3 years of experience on at least two of the following: network routers, switches and hubs, Video Teleconferencing equipment, and audio visual devices.
