GeoReachIn support of Operation Enduring Freedom, Loyola was tasked to develop 3-D visualizations that depicted the known infrastructure of bases located in the AOR. Loyola obtained NIMA and commercial IKONOS satellite imagery from the ACC GeoReach Cell, and developed a Common Installation Picture, extending 7 miles outside the base boundaries. Layers were added for Force Protection, runways, pilot approach plates, roads, aircraft parking ramps, existing and proposed construction, hardened hangars, base operations and maintenance centers, munitions storage, communication, and host nation restrictions on occupation and use of various facilities. The interactive GeoReach applications allowed the user to click on various objects in the 3-D scene to query attributes about that object. GeoReach Distance and area measuring tools were also provided. The GeoReach application runs in a standard Web Browser on provided laptop computers, and was also integrated into classified networks for access by military units in the AOR. Of special interest were interactive "fly-ins" that were used by pilots landing on the air strips for the first time in the AOR. |
