Electronic Documents

Loyola Enterprises Inc. provides electronic media services. Loyola develops and edits Document Type Definitions (DTDs) and Formatting Output Specification Instances (FOSIs) for various types of technical documentation. Loyola utilizes multi Arbortext programs (e.g. Epic Editor, Epic Architect and Epic Print Composer) to edit, create and maintain these various types of technical documentation. Loyola converts and/or creates appropriately tagged and parsed documentation in Standard Generalized Markup Language (SGML) and eXtensible Markup Language (XML) markup languages. This development includes tagging data, internal and external hyperlinks to text and graphics, parsing of tagged data and providing the conversion to a printable document.

Arbortext's Epic software creates a single source of content and automatically publishes to multiple types of media: Web, print CD-ROM and wireless. Epic Editor is the world's leading XML editor and the Epic E-Content Engine (E3) is a powerful document processing and publishing server.

Epic Editor is designed to create XML and SGML content disseminating it in multiple forms. Epic Editor allows authors to write text, create tables, place graphics and configure links.

Because it works with structured content, Epic Editor also provides viewing, navigation and editing functions that are specific to structure. In its Edit View, it continuously applies a stylesheet that gives the content a print or Web appearance. Its Document Map shows that same content in a hierarchical form that's easy to navigate and fully editable. Also, Epic Editor lets authors add only the tags that are valid at the current cursor position and allows authors to see or hide tags. Epic Editor's "Tag Alias" feature let you present alternate tag names to authors - an especially useful feature if your organization creates content in multiple languages based on the same DTD.

Epic Architect provides both rapid prototyping tools and extensive development capabilities to help developers build Epic applications for converting, creating, transforming and delivering critical business content.

Epic Architect's key functions include:

  • Data modeling/DTD design - Epic Architect utilizes a text-based DTD editor for use with SGML. If you have an SGML application that you want to migrate to XML, Epic Architect provides DTD conversion aids to help you translate SGML DTDs to XML DTDs.

  • Customized authoring environment.

  • Stylesheet development - Epic Architect's stylesheet editor lets you refine your print stylesheets with advanced composition functions.

  • Conversion configuration - Epic Architect provides the capability to associate style names with tag names for use with Epic Interchange.
