Since October 2003, Virginia Modeling, Analysis and Simulation Center (VMASC) has been working with a team of simulation and storage companies
to bring advanced enterprise storage management concepts to the United States Joint Forces Command (USJFCOM).
The result is an integrated device that supports the fusion of terrain, cultural, imagery and military graphics in real time onto any multi-channel visual environment.
 The organizations noted form the primary players in the displayed high performance computing system
that can rapidly transform raw data into the video shown on the monitors (off disk!).
The value of advanced storage concepts to the Modeling and Simulation consumer is enormous.
Modeling and Simulation is computationally intense and consumes huge amounts of storage.
Because of the performance required and the M&S community's limited knowledge of advanced storage concepts,
they have taken much of what can be offloaded to storage management products into their own applications and their supporting processes.
It is common for M&S community to hand carry more than 200 DVDs of data, load it by hand onto each server involved in the processing sequence,
only to have to unload it in order to move to a different scenario.
The new answer is to load it once and to mount those volumes to the servers that need it, when they need it.
SPE technology solves many problems with the current M&S paradigms, and offers improved simulation area sizes at higher resolutions.
This means greater fidelity and almost infinite flexibility.
